Next Repair Cafe & Community Lunch: Sunday 15 December 2024
Repair Cafes are free meeting places and they’re all about repairing things together. You’ll find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, toys and much more…
The Seaford Repair Cafe will be held on the 4th Saturday of each month at The Mercread Centre, Mercread Road, Seaford from 1pm → 3:30pm.
Come along and join our Community Lunch at 12pm before the Repair Cafe starts.
Our team of talented volunteers are here to help you!
We throw away vast amounts of stuff, even things with almost nothing wrong which could get a new lease on life after a simple repair. The trouble is, lots of people have forgotten that they can repair things themselves. Especially younger generations no longer know how to do that.
Knowing how to make repairs is a skill quickly lost. This is a threat to a sustainable future and to the circular economy, in which raw materials can be reused again and again.
Our Repair Cafe just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is.
Alongside the Repair Cafe, we will be sharing a community lunch. Come along from 12 noon and enjoy a hot lunch made by volunteers as well as the usual tea and cake! You don’t need to bring in an item to fix. You can come along and see what is happening, learn from the repairers or join us for lunch.
We accept donations for the Repair Cafe and our Community Lunch working on a ‘Pay as you feel’ basis. Any funds we raise will pay for hall hire costs, cafe ingredients and other resources needed for this project. If you would like to get involved in cooking or serving future lunches, please get in touch.
We hope to use surplus food when available. If you have a glut of vegetables, we will be happy to use them. If you are a food business with surplus food, we will be happy to use certain ingredients to save them from going to waste. Please get in touch for a list of what we can take.
We’re always on the lookout for repairers of all types – do you have a skill you would like to share? You can also support us in other ways – we need people to help with the community lunch, cafe and booking people in when they arrive.
